Went with 7 of my coworkers with tee times back to back and had a lot of fun. The carts are very updated for a public course. All of the staff were very friendly and made the experience that much better. I plan on booking another round to this place soon.
Go here if you like:
-no foods but snacks in the afternoon
-don’t care about stocked pro shops
-don’t need gps or easily spotted yardage
-like 4+ hour rounds
-people walking their dogs on the green
-ok with overpaying ($90) for a round that should be $45.
As of July 2021, the course itself is in good shape though. Kudos to them for that one item.
Tee times are 10 minutes apart, which is problematic if you're playing with slower players...I thought industry standard is 12 to 15? We also kept getting notices in the golf cart that we are 23 minutes behind pace and need to play faster, yet we were on the tee box when the group in front of us was on the green. It took FIVE hours to play 18 holes, which is absurd.
Additionally, I bought two drinks at the clubhouse and was charged $9 each, yet when I bought two more from the roaming drink cart they were $6?
Beyond those two bugaboos, the course is very well designed and keeps you on your toes. The housing lining some of the property keeps you ego in check. Some of the tee boxes were completely destroyed, but the fairways, rough, and sand traps were well maintained. The greens aren't consistent in speed, but neither is my putting.
Definitely a little high price-wise per 18. I'd recommend Old Hickory or Penderbrook if you'd like a public course of a comparable quality but a lower cost.
Reston Golf Club is well maintained Classic golf course design. The layout is challenging and fair. The Club is well managed with a nice Pro Shop and Snacks area. Worth a visit!
Not worth the $100 to play there
Fairways are in bad shape, either disease or lack of maintenance. When looking at the bunkers, I would say lack of maintenance
And the weeds around greens
WOW. This would be a $30 course in my part of the country
Overpriced and inconsistent.
Pros
- Close to DC
- Some nicely laid out holes
- Greens are slow but in nice shape
Cons
- Woeful condition fairways, rough and tee boxes
- Slow 5hr rounds with zero policing by marshals
- The 6th is an absolute abortion of a hole; 200 yards carry with a pot bunker guarding the front with woods behind it at 230? That ain’t fun.
There’s far better value for your ~$80 out there.
I’m passing through and wanted to hit a bucket of balls. I get a loaner driver only to find that there were no rubber tees on the platform. So I go back in to buy a bag of tees. Then I find out that the tees don’t fit in the ground. Cement beneath the tees. This is not a driving range. It’s an iron’s range. What a bust.
If you find yourself in the Reston, VA area - or are looking around for golf courses in the NoVA region - look no further. Get a tee time at Reston National. The management, staff, amenities, bar, clubhouse, practice range - are all top notch. I would comment that others are saying the greens are not ideal - Look at my photo from the 12th. It's literally butter. Love this place and would recommend to anyone who is deciding between places to go in NoVA - choose Reston National.
